I understand that a family Reunion is being planned in 2009 in Buffalo, New York.  I don't have the date as of yet, however, previous reunions have been around the 3rd weekend in August.  When I receive the information I will make sure I put it on this web page.

By the way, my Mom's mother was a Pompey. (she was Mollie Pompey) born in Ala....lived in W. Virginia.  Her brothers lived in New York, one remained Alabama.  My grandmother's father was Willie Pompey.  Jeanie

Hi DW,

Thanks for taking the time to post a message.

It is interesting that you mention the Pompey used as a first name rather than the last. In some of my research I have found that the first and last names have been reversed in the US Census and other records.

Regarding the name "Green" or "Greene" as a last name, I have been unable to find anything in the family tree of the Pompeys. However, I vaguely recall seeing the Green sirname association with the Pompeys as neighbors in central Alabama.

Beyond that I can not offer much help except to suggest that you have a look at our genealogy chart. Plug in a few names in the search field and see what you come up with.

Best regards and best of luck with your search...

Wiley

Wiley and others,

Hello, I was drawn to your website and message board because of the name Pompey and it is such an odd name. My Great Great Great Great Grand Father first name was Pompey and in your posted note you stated that most of the Pompey Family is located in Alabama, SC, CA and FL. We are also located in those areas.

Do you have any more information about your family name? Can you direct me to some of your family history? My family name is "Green" and I have been able to trace my family back to the times when Pompey and Harriet Green came from Virginia during the late 1790's to the early 1800's. Pompey himself was born circa~1800.

Thanks in advance,
DW

As far as I know, the largest group of Pompeys are located in Alabama (Selma, Birmingham and Mobile); California (Los Angeles); South Carolina; New York (buffalo), and Florida.

Some may know of other locations...

Wiley

In addition to those location listed above, there are also Pompeys in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
